Holidays mean unforgettable memories for sure, but also linen that is put to the test! A simple, consistent routine prevents halos, stubborn creases and yellowing.
Follow this practical checklist as soon as the last toast is done!

Right after the meal (within 30 minutes)
-
Shake crumbs off outside or over the sink.
-
Blot fresh stains with cold water (never rub).
-
Red wine: absorb with paper, rinse with cold water; avoid hot water.
-
Oil/grease: blot, then pre-treat with a drop of mild dish soap (no scrubbing).
Targeted pre-treatment (before washing)
-
Pigmented stains (tomato/turmeric): apply gentle soap, rest 10–15′, rinse cold.
-
Coffee/tea: cold rinse + delicate pre-treat; avoid optical brighteners unless the care label says so.
-
Overall dinginess: short soak in lukewarm water with mild detergent (no chlorine).
Washing linen: settings that work
-
Temperature: 30–40 °C (86–104 °F) for most pieces;
-
Detergent: gentle, without optical brighteners.
-
Softener: not necessary; if used, very small dose.
-
Spin: moderate (800–1000 rpm) to reduce creasing without stressing fibres and only if indicated on the label.
-
Load: do not overfill; give fabric room to move.
Drying & wrinkles (no stress)
-
Remove promptly after the cycle and smooth by hand.
-
Air-dry on a rack or flat, away from direct sun.
-
Ironing: for a crisp look, press slightly damp and inside-out and only if indicated on the label.
Storage: prevent yellowing and odours
-
Store only when perfectly clean and dry.
-
Large folds or roll to minimise hard creases.
-
Use a breathable cotton/linen bag; avoid plastic.
-
Cool, dry, dark place; add a natural lavender or cedar sachet.
-
Rotate sets to even out wear over time.
Common mistakes to avoid
-
Rubbing stains (causes halos).
-
Boiling water on pigments (sets them).
-
Chlorine bleach unless the label allows it.
-
High-heat tumble (shrinks and stresses fibres).
-
